Salman’s appeal in hit-and-run case adjourned till Oct 5

The Bombay High Court on Monday adjourned the case of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan for two weeks. During the last hearing on September 15, the Court had fixed September 21 to hear the actor’s appeal on a daily basis.

The ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ was convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment by a lower court on May 6 this year for killing one person and injuring four others when he rammed his vehicle into people sleeping on a pavement in a Mumbai suburb.

Salman appealed in the High Court against his conviction and also sought a bail on the same day. On May 8, the High Court put a stay on the sentence pending hearing and granted bail to the actor.

In July, the Bombay High Court had rejected a plea seeking stay on Salman’s appeal. Last month, the Supreme Court also refused to cancel the actor’s bail granted by the High Court. The peal for cancelation of bail was made Sushila Himmatrao Patil, mother of the late Mumbai Police constable who was Salman’s bodyguard at the time of the accident.

The Bombay High Court had also directed its registry to translate into English the vernacular documents pertaining to the case. The Court will next take up the case on October 5.

Meanwhile, Salman will be soon seen on the small screen hosting the popular reality show ‘Bigg Boss 9’. On the silver screen, he will appear in Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ opposite Sonam Kapoor.
